Should I read the book or watch the series first?

Honestly, I don’t think there’s a right way around to do this in this case. As is the case with most romance books and series, who ends up together is incredibly predictable, so you don’t need to worry about spoilers from that perspective. I personally, watched series one, then read all the books, and I’m still very much looking forward to the series.

It appears that each book corresponds to each series (or that is the case so far), but the series also adds some more background to the other Bridgerton siblings that the books don’t give, until you read the book focusing on that character.

Furthermore, the identity of Lady Whistledownis revealed at the end of series one of the Netflix series, but is not revealed in the books until much later on. So this is something to be aware of!

What order shall I read the Bridgerton books in?

Each book focuses on one of eight Bridgerton siblings. Whilst they are named in alphabetical order, chronologically, they should be read as follows.

Also, be warned if you read these books on Kindle, some of them have a bonus chapter at the end which was actually brought out after all eight books, so does contain spoilers. But as I said above, it’s very obvious who ends up with whom anyway.

  1. The Duke and I (Daphne Bridgerton’s story)

  2. The Viscount Who Loved Me (Anthony Bridgerton’s story)

  3. An Offer from a Gentleman (Benedict Bridgerton’s story)

  4. Romancing Mister Bridgerton (Colin Bridgerton’s story)

  5. To Sir Phillip, With Love (Eloise Bridgerton’s story)

  6. When He Was Wicked (Francesca Bridgerton’s story)

  7. It’s In His Kiss (Hyacinth Bridgerton’s story)

  8. On The Way to The Wedding (Gregory Bridgerton’s story)

There are then the prequels, focusing on the generation before these eight siblings. This series of books is called ‘The Rokesbys’, and should be read in this order;

  1. Because of Miss Bridgerton

  2. The Girl with the Make-Believe Husband

  3. The Other Miss Bridgerton

  4. First Comes Scandal

Hopefully, this gives you enough information to decide what order you would like to read or watch Julia Quinn’s world.

I know she also has other series which have characters overlapping with the Bridgerton’s lives, who are mentioned throughout the books, but I have only read the twelve books relating to this family. I really enjoyed these books for the light Georgian romantic escapism they are.
