I Won't Think About This

On Tuesday 1st October 2019, musician Alice Ashcroft released a new type of song which demonstrates her growth as a female Indie artist. Experimenting with new sounds and an unfamiliar time signature, the deep synths and catchy pop beats are combined with mandolins and bassy strings in a folky instrumental section in a wonderful fusion of genres.

The atmospheric intro captures your attention straight away, which then effortlessly shifts into a more poppy verse and chorus, keeping listeners on their toes without catching them off guard.

Compared to previously released music, this new song is definitely more progressive, and is the perfect example of Alice’s versatility as a singer-songwriter. The seamless transitions in and out of 5/4 pay homage to this, and give the song a refreshing, edgy sound. The lyrics are easily relatable and sassy whilst remaining appropriately poetic.

With a chorus enriched with vocal harmonies, Alice has also been experimental with different textures in her music, combining a variety of different timbres to make a rich overall sound. Taking inspiration from a range of contemporary artists, including Maisie Peters, dodie, and Oh Wonder, she has incorporated styles from their music and adapted them to make her own sound fresh and unique.

‘I Won’t Think About This’ is the perfect song to accompany autumnal evenings spent alone or with friends to give an ambience with chilled-out vibes.
