The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by VE Schwab

This is one of those books that I will want to re-read so many times, for the rest of my life, that much is certain.

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is a fantastic story about a girl who has lived for hundreds of years, but nobody can remember her. She can’t leave a footprint on the ground, but she can influence art and leave her mark that way. Then, Addie walks into a second-hand bookshop in New York, and meets someone who remembers her.

This book builds a wonderful fantasy world alongside real life, and does so with incredibly beautiful and poetic language - without being pretentious. The characters in this book are so well written, and despite what they think, so human.

In case you can’t tell, I love this book. Something that also stood out to me was the LGBT+ representation in this book, and how it didn’t feel out of place. It’s so rare to bisexual men represented in mainstream literature, and it was something I really appreciated. (And they weren’t the only queer character!)

I think this is one of those rare books I’d recommend to anyone. I suppose it’s a romance book, but there’s so much more to the story than that. It’s a fantasy book full of love, hate and some phenomenally powerful imagery.
